Dye Based Inkjet Inks
These inks are used by a class of printers which create characters by the controlled placement of liquid color dots. The inkjet printers commonly used for office and graphic arts applications are referred to as "drop on demand." These are further sub-classed as "thermal" bubble jet printers represented by HP, Canon, Lexmark, and Olivetti or "piezo" inkjet printers from Epson.

Dye Based ink formulations contain:
Water
Water must be of high purity without metal ions to prevent corrosion of nozzles.
Dye Colorants
Dyes must be of have high purity (salt free), with good color strength consisteney and possess thermal stability.
Surfactants
Provide control of surface tension for proper ink flow within the cartridge and ink contact with the media surface.
Humectant/Fixative
Retards evaporation at printhead, reduces feathering to provide excellent print quality and assists in controlling penetration of ink into the media surface.
Bactericides/Fungicides
Provide long term storage stability.
pH/Buffering
Provide for long term stability of dye colorant.
Manufacturing
Performed under "very" clean conditions to insure the "purity" of the final ink.
Ultra filtration
In the final step the ink is processed through our proprietary filtration system.

Pigment Based Inkjet Inks
These inks use particles of solid color known as pigments. While dye based colors are in "solution" to form an ink, inkjet pigment particles exist as a sub-micron dispersion. These inks have been used with piezo printheads with excellent results. Initial testing in thermal printheads demonstrate very good performance.

Pigment based inkjet formulations contain :
Water
Water must be of high purity without metal ions to prevent corrosion of inkjet nozzles.
Pigments
Must have high hiding power with very little fade in outdoor exposure applications. Since pigments do not "dissolve", inks are waterproof and provide excellent weatherability when combined with appropriate print media materials.
Dispersant/Surfactants
Provide both steric hindrance and charge stabilization of the pigment dispersion.
Humetant/Fixative
Retards evaporation at printhead, reduces feathering to provide excellent print quality and assists in promoting adhesion to the media surface.
Manufacturing
Performed under "very" clean conditions to insure the "purity" of the final ink. The ultra fine pigment dispersion is closely controlled for a narrow particle size distribution. This maximizes cartridge reliability and minimizes any tendencies for nozzle clogging.
Ultra filtration
In the final step the ink is processed through our proprietary filtration system.
